If your work or play area is a mess of wires, you are not alone. Mine is.  In the office, I have a desktop connected to an assortment of peripherals – external hard drive, speakers, printer, etc. At home, I have an entertainment system complete with LED display, Blu-ray player, game console, sound amplifier, speakers, and the works. And the result of all of these is a myriad of wires scattered around. This is not only unsafe, but the dirt can make the immediate vicinity unhealthy as well.

I have been looking for something to rectify this situation. And I found the solution in cable ties.

Cable Ties Described

The most common cable tie is made of strong nylon tape. It is designed in such a way that when it is tightened, it stays that way. This is achieved through an integrated gear rack that is allowed to pass through a case. Once inserted, it cannot be pulled back.

If you find the description too “industrial”, rest assured that this item comes in different colors (not to mention sizes).  So the fashionista in you will be served.  You are likely to find something that will match the color of your gear, your office table, or your living room. As for me, I prefer the inconspicuous UV black or the natural color for a subdue effect.

Cable Ties for Heavy Duty Use

You can also use this product to tidy up and organize the electrical wires in your home. However, in this case you will need the strong-duty or heavy-duty variety. These are also available, but not in rainbow colors as in the case of the miniature ones previously mentioned.  In fact, there are stainless steel cable ties that are used mostly for pipes, conduits, and cables. Needless to say, these are for heavy duty use.

The added good news is that this item can be purchased online. Just make sure that you touch base with a reliable supplier.
