Do you love horror shows? If the answer is yes then you must heard about Grand Guignol. As I love horror movies, when I heard about this, I search across the internet to find out more information but only little info was available. In the year 1897 Grand Guignol opened its doors for public. It was a theater in Paris in Pigalle area. It is popular for its horror shows. Founder plus director of this theater was Oscar Metenier.
Now you can see several horror movies over your television or in any multiplex. But these cannot match the magic and charm of Grand Guignol. As you know, few people avoid horror movies because of their fear. When technology was not much advanced theater’s horror shows were able to attract people. Many people enjoyed the horror drama and faced their fear live.

Mr. Oscar Metenier entertained people with their horror shows till 1962. Max Maurey (another director) made it more popular and find out André de Lorde (the principal playwright of theater from 1901 to 1926). Lorde srote 100 plays about craziness. Mr. Camille Choisy was the special effect expert and assisted as director from 1914 – 1930. In the list of important people for Grand Guignol, you can easily find name of Paula Maxa (one of the well-known actors), Benjamin Muratore (one of the successful performers), Jack Jouvin (director from 1930 – 1937) and Charles Nonon (last director of theater).
Plays
• Le Laboratoire des Hallucinations, by André de Lorde
• Un Crime dans une Maison de Fous, by André de Lorde
• L’Horrible Passion, by André de Lorde
• Le Baiser dans la nuit by Maurice Level
The great team was able to create magic in the live show.
However you can only imagine those days but don’t worry still you can enjoy horror movies at your home. Yes, no one can create that magic now. I can only miss those days and you too.
